... "Even the most popular song among the Allied Forces during the Second World War - Beer Barrel Polka - which is still considered an American or British folk song, is of Czech origin. It was originally called the Modřany Polka (Modřany is a Prague quarter) and composed by Jaromír Vejvoda in 1934. Inhabitants of the Böhmen und Mähren Protectorate, following the foreign radio stations in secret, naturally recognized this song with enthusiasm."
